I had fun creating a sprayed/stenciled/painted background today and then scanned it into my computer to play around with digitally. I added a few images; some great vintage documents and a cool texture from Design Cuts (they have a great deal right now on a Vintage Bundle!- http://www.designcuts.com). This is the kind of digital art I enjoy creating most.

Life Book 2014

I started doing Tamara LaPorte’s Life Book class this week. I wanted to have weekly lessons to keep me accountable to get into my studio and use some of the wonderful art supplies I have accumulated (and still am accumulating!). Our first project was to create an image (Tamara teaches how to create lovely face images) that can represent my word of the year. I had a hard time deciding between Contentment and Acceptance and finally went with Acceptance. I am willing to be willing to be more accepting of who I am in Christ and that He has created me to be creative and introspective and that is ok. So often in church culture, the assertive extroverts who make the most noise are the ones people look up to, but I am learning that the quiet ones often have the most to say that is worth listening to. Studying Daniel this “semester”, I admire his God-given qualities of humility, wisdom, patience, and a heart at peace even in the midst of the most trying circumstances. Contentment/acceptance is a learned trait. I want to be like Paul and be able to say with assurance, “…for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content.” Philippians 4:11. And Paul had a lot more to contend with in his life than I do, that’s for sure! I like how the drips make some smudginess; that is a good representation that life is sometimes messy, and I make mistakes, but the final picture will be beautiful. “Being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ.” Philippians 1:6
Texture Tuesday, Hold Fast to Dreams

A photo of the vignette I have set up in my entry way. I created the mixed media canvas a year or so ago. I love birds and love to feed them and make sure they have water (drought conditions here right now). I used kk_grungedup for the texture. I also used kk_daysofold Lightroom preset, lightening the exposure just a bit.
Trio Photo for 2B

I had taken this photo in Maui in December. The outside dining table under the lanai was the most beautiful place to have morning devotions. Looking out to sea, seeing Lanai, whales; hearing birds singing, smelling the floral scents of Hawaii… God is so gracious. I used kk_havana for the texture on two layers; one at color burn at a low opacity, and the other at soft light at low opacity.

Peace Always…Texture Tuesday

I co-teach a ladies’ Bible study at my church and we are finishing up 2 Thessalonians. The phrase, “Peace Always in Every Way”, in chapter 3:16, struck a chord with me. I am using this phrase in my closing applications so decided to create a postcard to print out and give to each member of the class. Maintaining peace in the midst of our daily lives is a blessing only God can give. It is kind of ironic that the texture I used for this Texture Tuesday piece is kk_calamity! http://www.kimklassencafe.com/thecafe/
Love Flowing…
These wispy little seed heads were getting blown hither and yon in the light breeze that was blowing as we walked the main trail at Windsor Riverfront Regional Park yesterday. When I read this quote last night in The Daily Bread devotional, I thought it fit well with this photo. As the seeds spread, so do our little kindnesses to each other.
The Flicker Returns…
I posted a photo of this flicker to my other blog and on my Flickr page, but edited this photo for Day 32 of Kim Klassen’s Beyond Beyond class. I used her copper 2 preset for Lightroom as a start then added a few of my own tweaks for this image. I used KK_Chase texture but only at 6% opacity and at a Soft Light setting. This flicker returned October 1 to my yard, and his distinctive call always says “fall is here!” to me.
